THE GOOD WIFE: This show keeps getting better and better and it’s grown into a not-so-quiet hit for CBS. In this week’s episode, Dylan Baker guested as a man who presumably killed his wife. In a civil suit brought against him, the late wife’s daughter tries to get the family fortune and secrets are revealed about the entire family. Alicia is forced to second chair the case and her obvious distaste for the guy as she tried to prep him for the witness stand made for compelling scenes between Julianna Margulies and Baker. The continuing story of Alicia and her husband Peter keeps evolving too as Peter is now appealing the verdict of his case in an effort to get out of jail and resume his “normal” life. Alicia insists there’s no going back to “normal” and she reiterated that point in a scene this week when she told Peter he’d be sleeping in a separate room if the appeal went through and he was allowed to return to their home. Margulies makes Alicia’s quiet strength and reserve a thing of beauty to watch week to week. She’s not self-righteous or a martyr, just a wronged woman who knows her own limits.
MOACA: Ray Romano turned in another quietly strong performance in this week’s episode. After a conversation with his bookie, Joe starts to seriously consider golf as a way of life and thinks about trying out for the PGA Senior Tour. Of the three men, Romano’s performances are staying with me most which is surprising given the fact that Andre Braugher is in the show. I’m continually astounded by Romano because this role is so different from EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND. While Joe isn’t perfect by any means, he’s far less oafish and more charming than Raymond was.
LAST RESTAURANT STANDING: I’m so completely unimpressed with the current teams left; I can’t see Raymond Blanc and his team investing time or money in any of them. Worst of all, the guy who can’t cook AT ALL is still in the competition. Ridiculous. I’ve lost respect for the show’s producers.
SHEAR GENIUS: Camilla Alves aka Matthew McConaughey’s baby momma is the host of the hairdresser competition though I can’t begin to fathom why. She can’t speak English well and she has trouble getting complete sentences out. It made me laugh in very short order. I have no idea why they chose her to host the show; I can only guess it’s because she has a lovely head of hair on her own head. She has no other ostensible skills, well, maybe bearing McConaughey’s babies counts?
IMPORTANT THINGS WITH DEMETRI MARTIN: Demetri talks about “Attention” in tonight’s season opener at 10pm on Comedy Central. I watched a handful of first season episodes and while I don’t think Martin is laugh out loud funny, he always makes me smile and I like his wry humor.
THE SARAH SILVERMAN PROGRAM: Silverman and company return with her special brand of comedy as evidenced by tonight’s season premiere titled “The Proof Is in the Penis” at 1030pm on Comedy Central.
IDOL THOUGHTS: As I don’t have the patience for the commercial-laden freak show of the IDOL audition episodes, I suggest IDOL fans check out Richard Rushfield’s pieces over at The Daily Beast. Richard is an expert on all things IDOL and I enjoy his take on the show very much. Click here for Richard’s latest thoughts:
