SAD BUT TRUE: Tonight may be the series finale of DAMAGES. It’s a supersize 90 minutes and I’m wondering how they’ll tie up the loose ends with the Tobins, deal with Leonard Winstone and his skeevy dad, resolve Ellen’s mystery about her babysitter and get rid of Tom.
DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES and BROTHERS & SISTERS hit a low in the ratings last night; I’m guessing it was because new episodes aired but the viewing audience thought the shows were still in repeats. I watched DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES to see John Barrowman but was disappointed in the overall lackluster quality of the show; DH definitely feels like a show that has peaked and is on the downhill slide.
BROTHERS AND SISTERS: I got misty when Kevin and Nora finally made up (as always) in the kitchen of the Walker house in Pasadena. Even though things turn out well for the Walkers most of the time, I find most of the show’s actors so good in their roles that I can’t help but shed a tear when they have big emotional moments. Of all the show’s couples, Kevin and Scotty had the best moments in this week’s episode and I guess that was because they were dealing with trying to have a baby and Kevin coming to terms with a tragedy that happened 20 years earlier. Though the stories are often highly emotional, I like that the show doesn’t try to stomp you with emotion although there is more than a fair share of hugging.
SNL: While Ryan Philippe’s muscles were a visual highlight, this week’s show was far weaker than usual. Having Kesha as the musical guest didn’t help matters either. Maybe things will pick up this Saturday with host Gabourey Sidibe.
DOCTOR WHO: Matt Smith is the new Doctor and I watched the season opener and found him very charming indeed. Watching the primer hour for the show also helped me get into it more easily.
MTV MAKES A GOOD DECISION: Aziz Ansari will host the MTV Movie Awards – live – June 6 at the Gibson Amphitheatre in LA.
CHRIS ROCK ON REAL TIME: This isn’t the entire segment of Rock on REAL TIME but in case you missed it – this was one of the highlights:
ON THE DVR: This week’s episodes of TREME, BREAKING BAD and THE MAKING OF LIFE. I’m also saving the 30 FOR 30 documentary about Allan Iverson because I didn’t get to watch the entire film last week. There have been a lot of repeats lately so I’m playing DVR catchup.
TODAY’S SURF WRITTEN WHILE LISTENING TO: “Late Great Golden State” by Mike Stinson:
Tonight’s rundown:
ABC: 8:00 p.m. Dancing With the Stars (90-minutes) 9:30 p.m. Romantically Challenged (series premiere) 10PM: Castle
ROMANTICALLY CHALLENGED: Four single friends (Alyssa Milano, Kelly Stables, Josh Lawson and Kyle Bornheimer) in different phases of their romantic lives try to find love and happiness by….wait for it….dating. While some of the show promos have been charming, it’s never a good sign when the network doesn’t make screeners available to critics before the show premieres. ABC also swapped out a different episode to air tonight and that last minute change makes me wary. Alyssa Milano definitely has fans and I think Kyle Bornheimer is a very funny guy (I reference the short-lived CBS comedy WORST WEEK and he was seen recently in a guest role on CHUCK) and supposedly Josh Lawson is adorable too. I’ll tune in tonight and see what they’ve come up with as I’m always hoping for good new comedies.
On CASTLE: Michael Trucco (BSG) starts his arc of episodes as a potential love interest for Beckett.
